Turns out the reason behind Robin Williams' hospitalization earlier this week is more serious than initially reported: the fifty-seven year old actor needs heart surgery.
On Monday, Robin checked in to a South Florida hospital with shortness of breath. Doctors recommended rest at first, forcing Robin to cancel four dates of his one-man show Weapons of Self Destruction. But a few days later, Robin's rep released a statement that said his comedy tour was postponed until the fall, as he was undergoing surgery for an aortic valve replacement.
Robin released his own statement as well: "I'm so touched by everyone's support and well wishes. This tour has been amazing fun and I can't wait to get back out on the road after a little tune-up."
Robin kicked off his 80-city tour last September; in the last three weeks he's been to 11 cities. If I kept that kind of schedule up, my heart would explode.
