The only way you could miss Rihanna being all over the news in recent weeks is if you've been living under a rock. Stories about her have been everywhere, most of them stemming from the now-infamous incident that occurred between her and Chris Brown earlier last month...you know, the one where he allegedly assaulted her in a Hollywood park?
Her name has popped up again, this time for a completely different reason. Rihanna's got a new tattoo, and it's got everybody talking.
I seriously doubt that this tattoo would drum up the kind of attention it's getting had nothing happened between Rihanna and Chris. Though she's no stranger to body art (the singer has several tattoos already), the fact that she got one of a gun just weeks after being allegedly assaulted by her boyfriend has people wondering why she'd choose an image so closely associated with violence.
On hand to answer that question was the tattoo artist himself, BangBang, who said they'd been talking about the idea of a gun tattoo for a year.
"I'm a big advocate of guns. So I said, 'How about a gun?' I printed out a picture of a gun that I thought would look good, and she loved it. We were thinking of putting it on her finger next to her wrist, or on her shoulders. She loved that, but it took away from her face, and you know, she's a CoverGirl, so we couldn't do that!"
BangBang offered his thoughts on why Rihanna chose this particular image as well: "If I had to say why she got it, it's because she kicks ass and everybody supports her! She can do whatever she wants. She's one of the nicest and sweetest people I know. She has a lot of really good friends supporting her," he said, adding, "We didn't talk about why she specifically got it. She's a rock. She's just thinking about having a great time now."
Other outlets have quoted BangBang as interpreting the image as a symbol of power and protection.
What do you think of Rihanna's new ink?
