Since appearing on the British version of Big Brother in 2002, Jade Goody has become a household name. Those who don't know her for the drama that unfolded after she appeared on Celebrity Big Brother in '07 (she was accused of racist bullying after making comments about Indian actress Shilpa Shetty) probably know her because of a much sadder reason: Jade, 28, is dying of cancer.
News of Jade's deteriorating health has become international news, and it's taken the British media by storm. Jade's cancer, unfortunately, has spread to her brain; she left the hospital today to go home, where she will be surrounded by her family, including her two sons, until she passes.
Jade's gotten the support of a lot of people, including a personal phone call from Michael Jackson, but it seems not everyone is happy with all the attention she is getting. In a recent interview, Oasis star Noel Gallagher called the press coverage of her situation an embarrassment for Britain.
"I was watching the TV today and they're all outside her house," The Sun reported him as saying. "There's a global crisis apparently going on, and it's 'Jack Straw, could you have a look at this?' [Her publicist] Max Clifford somehow manages to shape the mood of the nation.
I mean, I’ve got fuck all against Jade Goody, that's nothing to do with me. But it bends my head. That, to me, sums up in one tiny five-minute thing on the news what an embarrassing place Britain is right now.
You might as well shut Number 10 Downing Street down and get Max Clifford to run the country."
What do you think of Noel's comments?
