It's been quite a week for Christian Bale; his profanity-laden meltdown exploded on to the 'net on Monday and he's been headline news since. While they say any publicity is good publicity, this isn't the first time his temper has come in to question. Christian was arrested last summer after a heated argument with family members; although the charges were later dropped, back-to-back incidents such as these might not bode well for the actor -- something he appears to realize.
On a L.A. radio station this morning, Christian apologized for his tirade and owned up to his shocking behaviour.
"The thing I really want to stress is I have no confusion whatsoever, I was out of order beyond belief," he said. "I was way out of order, I acted like a punk, I regret that, and there is nobody that has heard that tape that was hit harder by it than me. I make no excuses for it, it was inexcusable. I hope that that is absolutely clear."
He said he's not yet comfortable with being a movie star, and that he considers himself an actor. He's disturbed, he said, by the suggestion that he feels he's better than everyone else. "Nothing could be further from the truth. I am a lucky – I don't want to swear – I am a lucky S.O.B. to do what I do, I never forget that, and that is why I put so much into what I do and why I care so much about it and why sometimes that enthusiasm just goes awry."
During the interview, Christian said that he and Steve Hurlbut, Terminator: Salvation's director of photography and the one who Christian's rant was directed at, resolved the issue and got back to work later that day. He also asked that the public not to judge the movie, saying, "Please, I am asking people, do not allow my onetime lapse in judgment, my incredibly embarrassing meltdown, to overshadow this movie."
So let's move on, shall we? It's over and done with, Christian and Steven have made their amends and a sincere apology has been made. And in his meltdown's wake, a new trend has been born: freak-out remixes. In the end, this whole thing could wind up being a rather win-win situation for both Christian and his new movie.
