The entertainment world has been buzzing since Chris Brown was arrested on Sunday night after attacking an unidentified female in a Hollywood area park. So many new details/speculations/opinions have surfaced that it's getting hard to keep track of it all.
So, to keep it simple - here's what's being said, in bullet-style:
- TMZ confirmed on Monday that Rihanna was the alleged victim and also reported that she had been assaulted with a deadly weapon, a claim that later turned out to be false.
- Many outlets reported that Rihanna's injuries were severe and there has been talk of her sustaining bite marks on her arms.
- Chris' own personal history with domestic abuse has been brought to light again - during an interview with Giant magazine in '07, he spoke of the abuse his mother suffered at the hands of his stepfather. His stepfather has since weighed in on the Chris/Rihanna story, saying he's not surprised by the allegations.
- Rihanna has cancelled several upcoming events, including concerts in Malaysia and Jakarta and her 21st birthday celebration.
- The pop singer's grandmother stated on Tuesday that she was okay, saying, "I don't want people to worry. Rihanna is fine and she is doing well." She also denied that her granddaughter had a broken nose.
- Fallout for Chris Brown started almost immediately; Wrigley's suspended their ads featuring the R&B star and his Milk Moustache ads have been dropped. Chris' songs have reportedly been pulled from radio stations, as well. MSNBC wondered early in the week if this was the end of Chris' career, while the AP noted that Chris would have been better off getting caught with a bong.
- Rihanna is said to be cooperating with the police while speculation and rumours about the incident run rampant: Chris threatened to kill Rihanna, she lost consciousness during the attack, a text message started the fight and - my favourite - Rihanna was jealous because Chris was hitting on Paris Hilton.
- The latest today is that Rihanna might need plastic surgery.
I think - and hope - that about 95% of all this is speculation, but there's no doubt that this is a really sad situation that, really, never should have happened in the first place.
