The recent news that Californication star David Duchovny had entered a treatment program for sex addiction seemed to come out of nowhere. One minute he was riding the high of a hot new show, Golden Globe tucked firmly under his belt, and the next, he was in rehab.
Folks were initially quick to point out the similarities between David and Hank Moody, the sex-obsessed writer he plays on Showtime's smash hit Californication, but there was no word on David's marriage (11 years and two kids with actress Tea Leoni). Tongues wagged: Were they still together, or had they separated? Did he cheat? Did she leave him?
The truth, the couple's publicists said yesterday, is that David and Tea have been separated for quite some time.
"In light of continuous speculation over the lives and marriage of Tea Leoni and David Duchovny, the couple has confirmed that they have in fact been separated for several months," read the statement. "The couple had hoped to keep this separation private for the sake of their children."
As far as this latest development goes, the writing was on the wall, but the fact that there are two children at the heart of the matter is what's really sad. Here's hoping that this family can come out on top.
