In his first interview since stepping in as his daughter's conservator, Jamie Spears has opened up to OK! magazine, touching on his relationship with Britney, his hopes for her and his thoughts on his ex-son-in-law, K-Fed.
Taking on such an active role in Britney's life was an adjustment, Jamie said.
"We've grown a lot," Jamie tells the rag. "I've been able to come back into my daughter's life, and that was an adjustment anyway, because I'm an alcoholic and it's the first time we've really been able to share."

On growing together as a father and daughter, Jamie said, "It's wonderful. It's new for both of us. She sometimes calls me 50 times a day and asks me things that light my life up."
Like all daughters, he said, Britney is very manipulative and cunning, which results in her getting what she wants a lot of the time. An interesting statement - I think it's the "like all daughters" thing that's throwing me.
As for his grandson's father, Jamie says Kevin's heart is in the right place. "Kevin has a wonderful heart. I don't agree with giving him more money....he wants them to raise these kids together. Kevin's heart is right."
After months of not being able to see her kids, Britney was awarded visitation this summer and currently has Sean Preston and Jayden James three days a week: Monday, Wednesday and Fridays for an overnight. As her conservator, Jamie is present at each visit, though he hopes the time will come when Britney won't need to have him on hand.
"I would hope that it stands until the end of the year, and then we'll sit back and evaluate where we are at the time, where Britney is at that time," he said, adding, "I do understand that my baby made this monster, but when she was down, people took advantage."
Yeah, no kidding. *coughAdnancough*
There's no doubt that Britney needed someone like her father to step in and take control of her life. She's clearly benefited from his presence the last few months, landing a recurring role on How I Met Your Mother, working on a new album and, most importantly, getting her kids back. Here's hoping she stays on the upswing, and that her relationship with her father continues to get better.
