Christian Bale, the Dark Knight star who was arrested on assault charges after the film's London premiere, is in the clear: prosecutors in England have dismissed the case.
These weren't your typical assault charges; the actor was arrested after his mother and sister claimed he assaulted them during an argument in late July. What exactly happened has never been fully disclosed; nobody involved, not Christian or his relatives, made much of a statement, though Christian himself did call it a "deeply personal matter."
England's Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said yesterday that there isn't enough evidence for a conviction.
"We can today confirm that we have advised the Metropolitan Police Service that the actor Christian Bale should not face any charges following an incident which occurred in relation to his mother and sister at the Dorchester hotel on 21 July this year," the CPS said.
"Whilst the CPS treats all incidents which take place in a domestic context seriously, it is important that the views of complainants are also taken into account when making decisions in such cases."
"Taking all the factors into consideration, the decision has been taken that there is insufficient evidence to afford a realistic prospect of conviction, and accordingly the police have been advised that no further action should be taken against Mr. Bale."
Rumours swirled after reports of Christian's arrest as to what caused the argument - I read several theories, including that his wife, Sandra Blazic, had been insulted by her in-laws and that his relatives had hit him up for a large sum of money. This whole situation smacked of strange and I'm glad that Christian isn't facing any charges. Hopefully, the Bale family can put this all behind them and move toward mending those fences.
