Well colour me surprised! I thought she had this one in the bag, but it looks like Avril Lavigne's Malaysia concert has been canceled after all.
In a statement, the country's Islamic party said that Avril's act was too sexy: "We don't want our people, our teenagers, influenced by their performance. We want clean artists, artists that are good role models."

Other artists, like Gwen Stefani and The Pussycat Dolls (pictured above), have performed there, but have toned down their acts in order to meet stage rules (which includes no obscene clothing and no shouting, jumping, hugging or kissing). Something tells me an Avril Lavigne show would be a bit tamer than a Pussycat Dolls show, but then again, I know jack about either of these two bands, so take that for what it's worth.
The fact that Malaysia's independence day celebrations fall two days after Avril's scheduled show was also a factor in the final decision; a representative from the Arts, Culture and Heritage Ministry said the concert clashed with holiday. "It's not in the good spirit of our National Day. If we go ahead with the concert, it is contrary to what we are preparing for."
In drawing this story to a close, I feel it's important to note that I've had Right Said Fred's I'm Too Sexy stuck in my head since I first read about this story.
FAIL.

That's exactly what Misterpie started singing when this news item came on...
And I'm going WHAT? Pussycat Dolls, whose show is all based on their burlesque show background, okay, but Avril not? I mean yes, shouting and jumping are kinda her thing, but dont' claim it's about sexy. I mean, how sexy ARE those tube socks up there, anyhow? Um, not very.
