Dr. Dre is living out every parent's worst nightmare: his son, Andre Young Jr., died this past weekend.
He was twenty.
I first read about this story yesterday morning, but held off on posting about it in the hopes that it wasn't true. I recently read a story about Little Wayne's eight-year-old daughter being killed in a car accident that turned out to be untrue and I was hoping for the same turnout with this story.
Sadly, Dr. Dre's rep, Lori Earl, released a statement yesterday confirming Andre's death.
"Dr. Dre is mourning the loss of his son," she said. "Please respect his family's grief and privacy at this time."
According to the L.A. County Coroner's assistant chief, Andre had spent the previous evening with friends, returning home at about 5:30a.m. Saturday morning. In a horrible twist of fate, it was Andre's mother who found him unresponsive; he was pronounced dead at the scene once paramedics arrived.
No foul play is suspected and an autopsy was conducted yesterday.
I can't even begin to imagine what Dr. Dre, whose real name, like his son's, is Andre Young, and his ex are going through right now. According to Wikipedia, Dr. Dre hadn't spoken to his eldest son since the early 90s, but no matter - the loss of a child is devastating, no matter what the relationship status. No parent should have to bury their child.
My heart goes out to Dr. Dre and his family.
