Mary-Louise Parker has been in several successful movies - Fried Green Tomatoes, The Client, The Spiderwick Chronicles and The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, to name a few - but it was her performance as Robin, a woman living with AIDS, in 1995's Boys on the Side that sealed the deal for me. Since seeing her in that movie, she's always been one of my favourite actresses.
Mary-Louise has been a strong presence in not only films, but on television and the stage as well. A bit part on the soap opera Ryan's Hope eventually lead her to Broadway, and then the big screen. She's maintained a strong presence in all three mediums, but it's her work on the hit HBO series Weeds that I think will be her most memorable.

On the show, Mary-Louise plays Nancy Botwin, a mother of two from the 'burbs who, after the death of her husband, starts dealing dope to make money and maintain her family's somewhat privileged lifestyle. Since it first aired in 2005, Weeds has become quite popular; the following year, Mary-Louise won the Golden Globe for Best Performance, beating out all four of the Desperate Housewives, who were nominated as well.
Earlier this week, People reported that Mary-Louise attended the Tony Awards last Saturday night with a broken toe. "I smashed it on the bed frame," she said.
Think she stubbed her toe? Guess again. She broke it while filming a love scene for Weeds, which doesn't surprise me one bit - her character, Nancy, could be classified as a 'bedroom enthusiast'. The show's directors used the footage, too. "They kind of had to," Mary-Louise said. "It was the first take!"
The fourth season of Weeds premiered last night and it didn't disappoint. I can't wait to see what happens to the Botwins this season - not to mention the toe-breaking love scene.

I liked her on West Wing, too, and I love how she has just carried on and done amazingly well for herself after that turkey left hr 7 months pregnant. Way to show him you've got some balls of your own!
