Chris Martin has a goal for his band Coldplay. Their fourth album will be released next week. Will he be looking to see the number of units they sell or their debut position on the charts? Not so much. He feels that their success should be measured by the number of songs they have featured in karaoke bars.
He told The Sun, “I’m really determined there should be more Coldplay songs in karaoke bars. I’ve been into them and you open the lyrics book and there are a million Beatles songs. There’s dozens of Abba, Culture Club or even Bucks Fizz, but Coldplay? There will be two or at best three. If we could just get eight in every bar worldwide I’d be happy. I would know we’ve made it.”
“I think there are three karaoke possibilities on Viva La Vida. It surely has to be the ultimate measure of success.”
You may think superstar singers would rock at karaoke bars however Chris feels that his own attempts are less than stellar.
He added, “I got up in a bar one night with my mate Tim Wheeler (from the band Ash) and we chose Bohemian Rhapsody. It was appalling.”
The secret in sounding good at karaoke is equivalent to the number of beverages consumed. It’s nice to know that law applies to even a top selling artist.
Help Chris achieve his new goal by practicing "Violet Hill" in your mirror.
