Following the likes of many of his fellow actors, Joaquin Phoenix is working on an album, though whether it will be released remains to be seen.
After learning how to play guitar for his portrayal of Johnny Cash in the Acadamy Award-winning film Walk the Line, Joaquin realized music was a wonderful and powerful release. He's been working on the album with Tim Burgess, frontman of the UK-based indie band The Charlatans.
"Once he learned guitar he found that he had quite a lot of demons inside himself that he wanted to expel through music," said Tim.
Though Tim said the tracks they've been working on are "brilliant", he suspects Joaquin keeps "scrapping everything or re-doing everything. I’m sad to say that I think it’s one of those records that may never come out, to be honest with you."
Alan McGee, former head of the U.K. indie labe Creation Records and Charlatans' manager, has been mixing the album with the duo. The process, Tim says, is on-going.
"I'm trying to get Alan to force him to put it out at the moment, but I don't know whether it will [get released]."
Ah, yes. I can identify with - and admire - Joaquin's perfectionism, but I hope he can put it aside long enough to get the album out. If nothing else, his performance in Walk the Line proved he could certainly hold his own as a musician, and unlike so many other actors who branch out and try their hand at music, I can see Joaquin's material being quite good.
