Five-time Grammy winner Amy Winehouse was arrested Friday afternoon and wound up spending the night behind bars.
The soul singer went to London's Holborn station voluntarily for questioning after she assaulted two men during the wee hours of last Wednesday morning.
Upon her arrival, Amy was reportedly in such bad shape that, following a doctor's advisory, officers waited several hours before questioning her.
Amy admitted to slapping a man across the face and was cautioned by authorities. She wasn't charged, but the assault will stay on her record and could be held against her if she's brought up on similar charges in the future.
She also alledgedly head-butted a man who hailed her a taxi outside a bar in Camden Town that same night.
Amy's spokeswoman released a statement on Saturday, saying, "Amy was fully co-operative with inquiries and apologised (sic) for the incident. She thanked the police for their professional handling of the matter. There will be no further action taken."
The pictures I've seen of Amy going to and leaving the police station show her looking tired, disoriented and...well, pretty messed up. Perez Hilton reported over the weekend that her father, Mitch, is considering another intervention for his daughter, and News of the World has said that Mitch feels the only way to save Amy's life is to lock her up.
"I want her sectioned. The situation is getting out of control," Mitch has reportedly said. "I want her off the street. I don't think being somewhere for six weeks is going to cure her problems. I think it needs far more radical measures. We will take the bull by the horns and deal with it."
I think Papa Winehouse is right, and I wish him luck with getting his daughter the help she so desperately needs.
